Mid-September in Belarusian forests is deer rutting season - a time when the males are so busy with their feelings for the females that they won’t notice you moving in to snap this close shot. The sun was rising from behind the tops of the pines, and I was crawling across the field on the windward side so as not to startle the deer. But he didn't seem to pay any attention to me. The best photograph is one that you can still see with your eyes closed. The forest yawned awake to bird song, it smelled of morning dew, and the world froze - just me and a huge roaring dear for miles. I put my camera down to fully absorb this moment to memory. Then, I pressed the shutter.
